When The Bank Says No has been announced as the first firm to join the inaugural Habito Accelerator programme that aims to help support and scale UK mortgage broker firms.

When The Bank Says No was selected from a pool of over 60 broker firms, following a “rigorous evaluation process to identify the firms best placed to scale and eventually exit”.

Habito launched what it calls its ‘industry first’ accelerator programme earlier this year – and When The Bank Say No are the first of just three companies that will join in this cohort. Each participating firm will receive strategic guidance, technology enablement, and the opportunity to become part of the broader Habito growth story.

Emma JonesNews of the participation has been welcomed by When The Bank Says No managing director Emma Jones who said: “We are absolutely over the moon to be part of the first Habito Accelerator cohort. To be chosen from such a strong field is a huge honour and testament to the team’s hard work and vision. We’re on a mission to help people who’ve been told ‘no’ by the banks and with the backing/guidance of Habito, we’re ready to take that mission even further and faster.”

When The Bank Says No continues to support customers turned away by mainstream lenders and was selected for the Habito programme due to what they identified as “rapid growth, bold vision, and unwavering commitment to helping underserved borrowers.”

Habito chief executive Ying Tan and his senior leadership team will now provide tailored mentorship to When The Bank Says No, who will also have access to Habito’s award-winning technology platform and operational infrastructure. There is also the future potential to be part of the company’s mergers and acquisitions roadmap, with a focus placed on long-term growth and consolidation opportunities in the industry.

Welcoming the broker firm to the programme, Tan said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome When The Bank Says No into our very first Accelerator cohort. They exemplify everything this programme was built for – entrepreneurial spirit, a strong mission, and a relentless drive to innovate. We can’t wait to support them as they continue to grow and help more customers get the mortgages they deserve.”

Emma began her career in Lloyds Banking Group, first in the unsecured & secured loans department at Halifax and later as a mortgage advisor at Lloyds. During 9 years in these roles and a further 2 years at Yorkshire Building Society, Emma was able to observe the impact of the recession, and how the banks let their customers down by denying loans and mortgages. Wanting to be a driving force for change, she stepped into a market advice role where she has been able to help clients when others couldn’t. Identifying a gap in the mortgage space, Emma went on to establish When the Bank Says No. As a keen property investor, she has been the focus of features in publications including The Sunday Times and This is Money. Emma’s greatest joy is overcoming the low expectations of their customers, many of whom have all but given up on getting a mortgage due. One thing Emma has learned through her own personal struggles is every client must be treated like a human and understood better by advisors and lenders in the industry. “We all have to navigate life events which can ultimately impact your financial status. It shouldn’t mean dreams of homeownership or business growth should have the breaks applied”. Emma and her team’s passion for helping people overcome the challenges they may face when applying for a mortgage have fuelled the success of When the Bank Says No.
